‘Fruit of the Spirit … Meekness’ (thoughts shared by Karen Pace, Consultant for Georgia WMU/WEM)–Isn’t it interesting how differently we all see things?  Even among believers, views can be drastically different.  It is funny how a word like meekness (poor, afflicted, humble) is a weakness to some or a point of bragging to others–causing arrogance!  When we look to God’s Word, His Spirit is teaching truth, revealing sin, encouraging obedience, affirming the activity of God and more.  As we end our focus this month on meekness, Psalm 25:9 speaks of meekness as who we are— “He leads the humble in justice, and He teaches the humble His way.”  (NASB) His Word is...

‘Fruit of the Spirit … Meekness’ (thoughts shared by Carol Poe, Multiethnic Coordinator for Georgia WMU/WEM) – During this month, we continue to focus our thoughts on “meekness” (gentleness) …… a fruit of the Spirit that often seems lost in our self-centered, “what’s in it for me”, 21st century world that wants us to believe that “meekness” is just another word for “weakness.”  This kind of thinking opposes everything that God’s Word teaches us so let’s not be fooled by the way the world wants to confuse us. ‘Fruit of the Spirit … Meekness’ (thoughts shared by Martha Ann Carter, 1st Vice President for Georgia WMU/WEM) – Galatians 5:22-23 ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law’.  Instead of meekness, several translations use gentleness while others use humility. Whatever the translation, we know that meekness is not weakness. Someone once explained that meekness is “breaking of a wild horse”. In other words, obedient to the master’s will. My parents taught me many Christian principles. One incident, told by my dad, illustrates his learning meekness…obedience to his...

‘Fruit of the Spirit … Meekness/Gentleness’ (thoughts shared by Daphne Youngblood, Support Staff for Georgia WMU/WEM) – This year we are exploring verses Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Gentleness is described as a strong hand with a soft touch much like a mother caring for her child. Others say it’s sensitivity of disposition and kindness of behavior, founded on strength and prompted by love. Do you think gentleness is outdated or counterproductive to getting what you want out of life?  The world would tell us that in order...
