Call to Prayer for December 23, 2013

‘Behold the Lamb of God . . . ‘– One of my favorite experiences as I traveled to Israel this year was to visit the Shepherd’s field on the hills outside of Bethlehem.  Historically, we know that Bethlehem is the place where many of the sacrificial lambs were born, raised and cared for by shepherds before making the journey to Jerusalem each year during Passover.  How amazing to think that God would have His Son, the perfect, Holy Lamb of God born in Bethlehem.  My heart is overwhelmed as I think of the baby Jesus, being born in a stable shared by other animals, as He began His earthly journey in Bethlehem before becoming the perfect sacrifice for our sins on the cross...

Do You Know Jesus as the Lamb of God?

Lamb of God What image comes to your mind when you think of a lamb?  Did you think of “cute and cuddly” or “dirty and dumb”?  A reoccurring theme in the Bible is God as our Shepherd and we as His sheep.  But from the beginning God had only one lamb chosen to be the Lamb of God, His Son Jesus, who would take away the sin of the world.  Isaiah 53:6 says, “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”  God gave us a picture of Jesus as the sacrificial lamb in Genesis 22 and Exodus 12.  In the New Testament Jesus pays the price of our sins by His death on the cross and is exalted as the...
