‘The Family that Prays Together…’ – Every year at this time we are reminded of how life can change in a moment.  Yesterday was the 15th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 (September 11, 2001).  I remember in the days that followed how our country joined together as one and our churches were filled to capacity with people praying and seeking God’s guidance and comfort – hoping to understand in some way what had happened.  I wonder why it seems to take a tragedy for us to turn our hearts to God.  God is the same yesterday, today and forever – nothing takes Him by surprise – He knows our past, our present, AND our future.  We can be comforted in knowing that He is in...

Call to Prayer for November 30, 2015

‘We Gather Together – I pray that all of you had an opportunity to visit with family and friends this past week as we celebrated a time of thanksgiving for all we have been blessed with this past year.  Mine was very special as I traveled to Williamsburg with my mother, brother and 2 sisters – my mother had wanted us to do this for a long time and it was a trip to remember.  Tomorrow is the first day of December and now our thoughts and activities will be focused on Christmas – shopping, get-togethers at work and church, musicals, and the many decisions of what to buy and where to go so we can visit with all of our friends and family.  As I thought of all the joyous...

Call to Prayer for July 16, 2012

We’ve all heard the saying – ‘the family that prays together stays together’.  I certainly believe a family who prays regularly for and with each other is strengthened and shows more compassion for each other – whether this is our immediate family or our church family.  What motivates us to pray for someone – to take them before the throne of God and plead for God to bring comfort, healing, help – whatever the need?  This past week I received the sad news that the son of a dear friend in my Sunday School class had died suddenly.   My heart broke for my friend who had also lost another son in a tragic car accident a number of years ago.   As I got in my car to go...
