Praying Like Abraham

God called…Abram answered God promised…Abram believed God judged…Abraham prayed…God answered! God and Abram’s relationship is first mentioned in Genesis 12 when God initiates a conversation with Abram.  For the next thirteen chapters of Genesis there are many recorded conversations between God and Abraham.  God shares with Abraham His promises and plans; His will and ways.  One such occasion is found in Genesis 18.  This is where God tells Abraham His concerns about the people of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Abraham pleads a case for the “innocent people in the city”.  He starts by asking if God would spare the place for the sake of fifty people who are in it.  God and Abraham...

Our monthly focus for this next year will be a study each month on Old Testament pray-ers and truths we can learn from their prayers. I recently read the following entitled ‘The Common Prayer’ written in 1873 by the popular evangelist and publisher, Dwight L. Moody: ‘Those who have left the deepest impression on this sin-cursed earth have been men and women of prayer.  You will find that ‘prayer’ has been the mighty power that has moved not only God, but man.  Abraham was a man of prayer, and angels came down from heaven to converse with him.
