Pray for Our Communities

Claiming FaithClaiming Faith: A Journey Toward the Harvest – “Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you” (Gen.13:17, NIV)

More than ever before we are living in a diverse cultural landscape.  Men, women and children from all over the world are living, playing and working around us and with us.  Along with different cultures comes a myriad of religious practices, beliefs, and houses of worship where faith is expressed.  Many non-Christian houses of worship are located right in your community.

Claiming Faith was birthed from women in Georgia desiring to respond literally to the nations as they move into communities across our state.  Through prayer walking non-Christian houses of worship we are trusting God to break through idol worship and false religions and to make Himself known.  Our prayers are vital in this process of penetrating hearts.

Claiming Faith is…

  • An opportunity to prayer walk non-Christian houses of worship.
  • An opportunity to provide education and challenge women and church members to learn about other faiths.
  • An opportunity to grow spiritually and develop a deeper understanding of personal faith in Jesus Christ.
  • An opportunity for God to reveal how He wants us to build evangelistic relationships with women and families of other faiths.

Step One: ADOPT a Claiming Faith location

  • Identify non-Christian houses of worship in your area.  It is amazing what new things you see in your community when you really take the time to see through the eyes of Christ.  Drive through your community.  Take different routes than your everyday routine to see what you discover.  Look through your local phone book or use an online search engine to see listings and locations of non-Christian houses of worship.  Finding a location that is close in proximity to your church will help you personalize the need for prayer as you recruit others to join you.
  • Pray for God’s leadership throughout the adoption process.  Ask Him to guide you to the location He desires your prayers to be focused.
  • If you need help connecting with a Claiming Faith location contact Beth Ann Williams.

Step Two: APPROACH as a Learner

  • Once you have adopted a Claiming Faith location spend time learning about the religion practiced there.  As you learn about the beliefs, customs and practices you will begin to understand how to pray effectively and intercede for the people.  (Links to Learn)
  • Some non-Christian houses of worship are very large and are open to tours by the public.  Schedule an official tour or find out times the facility is open to the public.  While there visit with workers, leaders, and other visitors.  Ask questions to gain a deeper insight into who they are as people and what needs they may have.
  • Approach with a sincere desire for relationship.
  • Based on your findings decide on the most appropriate to way to pray for your adopted site.  Is the location closed to outsiders? Or can you easily tour the inside?  Is it appropriate to physically prayer walk the grounds?  Is it more appropriate to “prayer drive” around your location?  What are the meeting times?

Step Three: ASSEMBLE a Prayer Team

  • Assemble a group of people that will commit to pray for one year.  Smaller groups of 2-3 at a time work best.
  • Provide specific training for the prayer team.  Introduce them to the religion, show pictures of your adopted location and give details about what is practiced there and what type of people attend there.
  • Introduce the team to specific prayers they can pray while walking.
  • Select dates and times for the prayer walks.  They can be done weekly, monthly, or quarterly depending on what works best for your group.
  • Pray together before your walk.
  • Agree on the time to return and share the results of the prayer walk.

Pray that believers would not oppress or cheat those who worship in this place but would be kind, gentle, loving, reaching out to them in the Name and in the power of Christ. Ask that believers would be bold, fearless witnesses, full of hope and not grow weary in the battle. May we not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.

Ask that those who worship here would become lovers of truth so as to be saved. 2 Thessalonians 2:10

Pray that the Holy Spirit would hover over this place protecting all who come and go, preserving life so that they might come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Pray for believers to boldly share the Good News with those who do not yet know Him.

Ask that the Holy Spirit would reveal Jesus Christ to all who gather here. Ask that He would enlighten them to see and understand Truth.

Pray that anything and everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of the One True Holy God in this place would be shattered.

Ask that the misconceptions, lies or wrong understandings of Christ Jesus being taught hear would fall on deaf ears. That those propagating falsehoods about Christ would cease in their labors. Ask that all the false teachings of Christ and Christianity would be replaced with truth. Pray for an unquenchable hunger for truth to be poured out on the people who come in and out of this place. Ask that they would have ready access to the Bible in their heart language, read it with a genuine hunger for truth and that the Spirit of the Living God would convict them of sin, righteousness and judgment.

Pray that Satan is prevented from adding to the numbers gathering in this place and that all spiritual captives would be set free.

Pray for the leaders of this place asking the eyes of their hearts to be opened that they clearly would hear and see truth, humble themselves before Christ and receive Him as Savior and Lord.  As they take this step pray that they use their position of influence and leadership to lead many others in this same path.

Thank God that for the joy set before Him the perfect Christ Jesus bore the suffering and shame of the cross so that the sins of humanity could be atoned for by His life blood. Pray that those who gather here will see they can not earn their salvation. But, if they confess with their mouths Jesus is Lord and believe in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead they will be saved.

As you leave take time to profess that Jesus Christ is the One True Prophet, One True Priest and One True King. He is fully God and fully human. He is the Only Way to the Father. There is no other that remotely touches His magnificence and His uniqueness. Glory to our God and King!

All Scripture is from NASB.
