Praying Like Abraham

God called…Abram answered

God promised…Abram believed

God judged…Abraham prayed…God answered!

God and Abram’s relationship is first mentioned in Genesis 12 when God initiates a conversation with Abram.  For the next thirteen chapters of Genesis there are many recorded conversations between God and Abraham.  God shares with Abraham His promises and plans; His will and ways.  One such occasion is found in Genesis 18.  This is where God tells Abraham His concerns about the people of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Abraham pleads a case for the “innocent people in the city”.  He starts by asking if God would spare the place for the sake of fifty people who are in it.  God and Abraham go back and forth in their conversation and eventually Abraham asks, “What if 10 are found there?”  God answered, “I will not destroy it for the sake of the 10.”  God had shared His plans with Abraham and Abraham responded by praying.

Just as God shared what was on His heart with Abraham, He will share with you, too, as you take the time to read His Word and listen.  After He tells you something, talk to Him about it.  Intercede for the people or situation that God has mentioned to you; be relentless in bringing them/the situation before God Almighty.  Cry out on their behalf.

Almighty God, I praise You for being strong and being more than able to accomplish the impossible!  Thank you for bringing _(fill in the name of person or situation)_ to my mind and heart.  I come before you on their behalf right now.  Your mercy and grace are needed in abundance…let it flow generously.  Reveal Yourself to them…show them a part of Yourself  they haven’t experienced yet.  May Your will be accomplished in this situation; may You be glorified and Your name be exalted.  Help me speak the truth in love into their life/the situation when the opportunity arises.  (What else is God bringing to your heart to pray? Listen and respond.)  In the powerful name of Jesus, AMEN.
