Do You Know God is Light?

LIGHT

Light: brilliant quality, pure, radiant, fiery, illuminates, and exposes.

Meditate on it, Pray it, Believe it—His Word is true.

  • Meditate on it . . . As God instructs in Joshua 1:8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate (listen, think, take it to heart, absorb it) on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

God is LIGHT

1 John 1:5-10 (ESV) This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Read 1 John 1:5-10 as a statement of truth and insert your name or leave the pronoun.

1 John 1:5-10 (ESV) This is the message ______ ( your name) has heard from him and proclaim, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If (I) say (I) have fellowship with him while (I) walk in darkness, (I) lie and do not practice the truth. But if (I) walk in the light, as he is in the light, (I) have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses (me) from all sin. If (I) say (I) have no sin, (I) deceive myself, and the truth is not in (me). If (I) confess (my) sins, he is faithful and just to forgive (me my) sins and to cleanse (me) from all unrighteousness.  If (I) say (I) have not sinned, (I) make him a liar, and his word is not in (me).

Revelation 21:22-25 (ESV) And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.  And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there.

Revelation 22:4-5 (ESV) They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.  And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

Take a moment and imagine glorious light so bright that there will be no need for the sun, moon, and stars!  Imagine no more nights.  Imagine the temple of the LORD God Almighty and the Lamb!  Oh, glorious day when we will only live in the presence of LIGHT!  Come, Lord Jesus, come!

God created LIGHT

Genesis 1:3-5 (ESV) And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

Genesis 1:14-19 (ESV) And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so.  And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars.  And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.  And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

Just with His spoken word, God created light!  What power!  Sometime soon take a few minutes to enjoy the warmth of the sun, marvel at the moon, and gaze at the stars (remember He calls each star by name!)  His majesty is on display for the whole world to see!

God’s Word is LIGHT

Psalm 119:130 (ESV) The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.

Psalm 119:105 (ESV) Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

What path are you walking today?  What truth from His word does God have for you on this path so that you walk strong instead of stumbling?

  • Pray it . . .

Look back over the verses and consider these questions…

What names of God or Jesus are stated?  Praise them using these names.

What are some things that are mentioned that God has done for you?  Thank Him for His actions on your behalf.

Do you read any sins that you need to confess? For example…is there an area in your life that you are walking in darkness, you don’t want to admit you are sinning?  Are you opening God’s Word to light your path?  Confess and ask Him to cleanse you from your unrighteousness.

What promises are in these verses?  Confess…forgiven, no need for light…He is the light, no more night, God’s word imparts understanding.  What other promises is God showing you?

How can you pray these verses for yourself?  Others?  An example using Psalm 119:130 & 105.

Heavenly Father, my Light, thank you that the unfolding of your words gives light to my life.  I ask that You impart understanding to me as I read and meditate on your word today. You know I need direction concerning _____________.  Please use your word as a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

  • Believe it—His Word is true.

God is LIGHT; absolutely no darkness in Him.  He desires for us to walk in the light of His truth and grace daily.
