Do You Know Jesus is the Light?

A spotlight shines over a wide area, while a laser beam targets a specific area.  Both are useful and necessary in our lives.  Jesus is the Light of the world, like a spotlight lighting up a wide area.   He came to our dark, desperate world and brought light.  But His light is also like the laser because it shines into the deepest places of our hearts and exposes our sin and shame, but also brings healing.

Meditate on it, Pray it, Believe it—His Word is true.

  • Meditate on it . . . As God instructs in Joshua 1:8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate (listen, think, take it to heart, absorb it) on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Jesus is the Light of the World

Luke 2:25-32 (NLT) At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him  and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying,

“Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised.  I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people.  He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!”

John 8:12 (ESV) Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 9:5 (ESV) As long as I [Jesus]am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Believers are the Light of the World

Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV) Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus is the Light of the World who reveals God to the nations.  Those who follow him walk in the light and have the light of life.  While Jesus walked the earth, he was the light of the world.  As Christ followers, we are the light of the world bringing his light into our dark world.  We are to let our light shine before others so they can see the light, too.

  • Pray it . . .

Luke 2:25-32 (NLT) LORD, may it be said of me that I am righteous and devote, totally covered in the blood of Jesus and committed to him.  Help me to eagerly await the return of the Messiah to come and rescue us. May your Spirit be upon me and reveal truth to me.  Lead me by your Spirit divine.   Like Simeon, may I be found where you’ve told me to be; help me to obey your every command as your faithful servant.  God, thank you for showing me your salvation through your son, Jesus, that you have prepared for all people.  He truly is the light that reveals God to the nations and he is the glory of your people!

John 8:12 & 9:5 (ESV) Praise to Jesus, the light of the world.  The only one who is full of light, with no darkness.  Thank you that as I follow you, I will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life!

Believers are the Light of the World

Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV) Jesus you have said that as a Christ follower I am now the light of the world.  I know it is only because you are in me that I can shine, because apart from you, I am nothing.  Forgive me when I have hidden my light under a basket.  Fill me with your Spirit so that your light goes out from me to give light to all in the house.  Help me shine your light before others so that glory is given to my Father in heaven.

  • Believe it—His Word is true

Jesus wants me for a sunbeam to shine for him each day. In every way try to please him, at home, at school, at play.  A sunbeam, a sunbeam, Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.  A sunbeam, a sunbeam, I’ll be a sunbeam for him.

Jesus wants me to be loving, and kind to all I see; showing how pleasant and happy His little one can be.  A sunbeam, a sunbeam, Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.  A sunbeam, a sunbeam, I’ll be a sunbeam for him.

I will ask Jesus to help me to keep my heart from sin, ever reflecting His goodness, and always shine for Him.  A sunbeam, a sunbeam, Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.  A sunbeam, a sunbeam, I’ll be a sunbeam for him.
