Do You Know God is El-Kanna?

El-Kanna:  Jealous

When defining the word jealous, we often think of words like envy, resentment or rivalry.  But it also means vigilantly guarding something, intolerant of unfaithfulness, or righteous zeal.  The name El-Kanna expresses God’s desire to be first in our hearts and lives.  He desires for us to vigilantly guard our relationship with Him and to remain faithful to Him as He zealously pursues us!  El-Kanna alone is worthy of ALL our devotion and praise; of being number one.  He is jealous for us because He made us, loves us, and wants us for His own!

Meditate on it, Pray it, Believe it—His Word is true.

Meditate on it . . . As God instructs in Joshua 1:8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate (listen, think, take it to heart, absorb it) on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Exodus 20:4-6 (NLT) You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.

Exodus 34:13-14 (NLT) Instead, you must break down their pagan altars, smash their sacred pillars, and cut down their Asherah poles. You must worship no other gods, for the Lord, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.

Deuteronomy 4:23-24 (NLT) So be careful not to break the covenant the Lord your God has made with you. Do not make idols of any shape or form, for the Lord your God has forbidden this.  The Lord your God is a devouring fire; he is a jealous God.

Isaiah 42:7-8 (NLT) You will open the eyes of the blind.  You will free the captives from prison, releasing those who sit in dark dungeons. I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to anyone else, nor share my praise with carved idols.

Isaiah 48:10-12 (NLT) I have refined you, but not as silver is refined.  Rather, I have refined you in the furnace of suffering.  I will rescue you for my sake, yes, for my own sake!  I will not let my reputation be tarnished, and I will not share my glory with idols!  Listen to me, O family of Jacob, Israel my chosen one!  I alone am God, the First and the Last.

Pray it . . .

Praise: Lord God, El-Kanna, I lift up my praise to you and you alone.  You alone are God, the First and the Last; a devouring fire.  You are not an idol carved by man’s hand, rather YOU are the Maker of Heaven and Earth and all that it contains!  To You belongs all glory, honor, and praise.

Thanksgiving: Thank you for your lavish unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands.  Thank you for opening the eyes of the blind, freeing the captives from prison, and releasing those who sit in dark dungeons.  Thank you for refining me in the furnace of suffering for your sake.  Thank you for being jealous for me.  Thank you for being vigilantly guarding me.

Confession: Ask El-Kanna to reveal to you any idols that you have made and worshiped above Him.  Confess your sin of making for yourself idols, bowing to them, and giving your affection to them; being unfaithful.  Ask El-Kanna to breakdown, smash, and cut down the idols in your life through His power.  Ask God to forgive you when you have stolen His glory by not giving Him his due praise and thanks.  Ask for forgiveness and receive His cleansing.

Intercession:

*Many new Christ Followers are coming out of false religions where they worshipped manmade idols.  Pray that these new believers will understand they must smash their idols and worship only El-Kanna, not just add Him to their gods.

*Many missionaries are ministering in places where carved idols are part of their scenery every day.  Pray for our workers to not be distracted by the ways of the people around them, but to guard their affections and keep them totally centered on Jesus.  Pray they remember that God is jealous for their heart, time, and worship and that He is pursuing them with His lavish love.  Pray they are faithful to spending time with Him each day.

*In America we may not see “carved idols”, but Americans still have them…money, fame, power, and possession.  Pray for America to cast down their idols and bow to El-Kanna.

*Pray for God to open the eyes of those who are blind to truth. Pray for God to free the captives from their prison of sin.  Pray for God to release those who are sitting in darkness to come into His marvelous light.

*Pray for believers to give God all the glory due His name!

El-Kanna is vigilantly guarding you!  He will not tolerate unfaithfulness!  He has a righteous zeal for you!
