Call to Prayer for October 21, 2013

‘Prepared for battle… ’ – This past Saturday I had the privilege of taking my Acteens to Stone Mountain where we participated in a ministry to soldiers preparing to be deployed for battle within the next few months.  Acteens from all across America had collected toiletry items during their Christmas in August project and had shipped them to one of our chaplains, Kenneth Koon, who serves here in Georgia where he ministers to the military and their families.  It was an honor for all of us to interact with these men and women as we thanked them for their service and provided them with these gifts of appreciation and Bibles for them to take on their journey.  They were spending the weekend preparing for battle as they attended conferences and filled out all the necessary paperwork before leaving their families to go on the battlefield.

Each morning as we wake up and prepare for our day, we should also prepare ourselves for battle.  The world is our battlefield and we must be prepared to face the enemy.  Paul told the believers at Ephesus (Ephesians 6:10-20) just as he reminds us today that we are to put on the spiritual armor of God before we walk out into the world.  Just as these men and women we met on Saturday would never think of leaving a single piece of their battle gear at home or in their barracks, we need to be just as diligent as we prepare for the ‘unseen’ enemy we face in the world each day.   In addition to putting on the spiritual armor which includes the Word of God as our offensive weapon against Satan’s attacks, we are to ‘pray always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watch with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.’   I believe this means we are to never quit or give up as we pray for others with everything that is within us as we intercede on behalf of others – praying for God to strengthen them as well as us to be strong in our faith and in the work God has called us to do each day.

This week, my prayer is that we will be ‘prepared for battle’ as we put on the whole armor of God with His word in our hearts, and prayers continuously being offered for others.  Also, remember to say a prayer this week for our military – the men and women who serve willingly each day so we can continue to have the freedom to worship openly here in America.

My Prayer for you this week: ‘Father, thank You for Your Holy Spirit who walks with us each day as we go into battle against the Enemy.  Thank You for Your promise to never leave us or forsake us.  We know that the battle belongs to You and that You bring the ultimate victory in our lives, but along the way we do have many battle scars that the Enemy would love to bring defeat and fear in our lives.  Help us to keep our eyes on You as we are obedient to prepare for battle each day by putting on the spiritual armor that You have provided and by taking with us our weapons of warfare – Your Word and prayer.

  1. Thank you for this reminder of being prepared each morning as we approach our “battlefield” and of our Father’s Holy Spirit who leads us. What an awesome day Saturday must have been as you and the girls were there in the midst of our military men and women!
