Call to Prayer for January 29, 2018

As we complete this first month of 2018, I’m sure many of us have set goals for the New Year that we might have already decided it’s just not worth our effort or time to continue to pursue – but God doesn’t want us to quit especially if it’s something He’s asked us to do.  We also sometimes give us on our prayers – the following was originally posted on 1/27/2014 and I wanted to share it with you again as we think about continuing what we have started:

‘Practice makes perfect . . . ‘–  As a young girl taking piano lessons, my teacher would always remind me of the importance of practicing each week between lessons and not to give up even when I became frustrated and struggled with the music.  She encouraged me to keep practicing and that in time I would ‘play it perfect’.   I recently read a devotion from Streams in the Desert that reminded me of the importance of never giving up and being persistent until the goal is achieved.  This story was told by Tammerlane from The King’s Business: “I was forced to take shelter from my enemies in a ruined building where I sat alone for many hours.  Desiring to divert my mind from my hopeless condition, I fixed my eyes on an ant that was carrying a grain of corn larger than itself up a high wall.  I numbered the efforts it made to accomplish this task.  The grain fell sixty-nine times to the ground, but the ant persevered, and the seventieth time it reached the top.  This sight gave me courage at the moment, and I never forgot the lesson.’

So many times, we quit praying about something because we either grow weary or are no longer expecting God to answer our prayer.  We are told in Luke 18:1 that ‘men ought always to pray and not to faint’.   If God has put a desire or concern on your heart, it’s there for a reason and He wants you to keep praying until His purpose is achieved.   The motto of David Livingstone was ‘I determined never to stop until I had come to the end and achieved my purpose’.    If you’ve been praying about something for a long time and are discouraged, determine in your heart never to stop praying until you receive an answer – be like the ant and keep at it until ‘practice makes perfect’ and you receive an answer.

My Prayer for you this week: ‘Father, thank You for always hearing us when we pray and for never getting tired of us coming to You with the same concerns and desires over and over again.  We know You love us and want us to talk to You; You want us to trust You for all things.  Help us to be persistent in praying for those things You have placed on our hearts and help us to be patient in waiting for You to answer.   We know Your purpose and plan will always be accomplished in Your time and in Your way.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Let’s continue joining together in our concert of prayer as we intercede for our friends and workers in Israel and surrounding countries.  For more information on how you can partner with us in praying for Israel, go to the tab ‘Prayer Requests’ and scroll down to select ‘Pray for Israel’.
