Call to Prayer for August 13, 2012

Promises are meant to be kept – but how often are they broken or forgotten?  I read recently that ‘a promise is a written or spoken declaration that binds the person who makes it to do a specified act’.   We all know that God always keeps His promises – His character makes all His promises credible.  For that reason we can ‘pray’ His promises and depend on God to make it happen.  All we have to do is open up His Word and it doesn’t take long before we are reading a promise from God.   David took God at His Word when he was told in 2 Samuel 7:18-29 that David’s kingdom would never end.  In Hebrews 11:17-19 we read that Abraham believed the promise from God that his son, Isaac, was the heir of promise, and that even if he died on the altar, God could raise him up again.

Sometimes we discover a promise that suddenly jumps out at us and is so appropriate for that specific moment in time (even though we might have read it many times before). This past week, I had this happen as I read Psalms 2:8 – ‘Ask of me and I will give the nations for your inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession’.    Many of us have been praying for several years for a movement of God’s Holy Spirit in the countries of Northern Africa and the Middle East; for the past 3 weeks we have been praying during this season of Ramadan for the thousands of people around our world who have been blinded by Satan to believe a lie and who don’t know the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Question – Have we really been praying this promise from God that we read in Psalms 2:8?

This is the last week of Ramadan and I want to ask that you will especially pray Psalms 2:8 this coming Wednesday, August 15 and Thursday, August 16 (depends on their location) as this will be the Night of Power for Muslims around the world.  Our workers share that Muslims believe that they can change their ‘fate’ on this night as they pray.  Pray that Jesus will reveal Himself to them, whether it is through a dream or a vision, or through someone or something.   Pray that God will truly change their ‘fate’ as they are drawn to Him through the power of the Holy Spirit and the truth of Jesus.

We are living in a world that is dark with sin and needs the light of Jesus.  Let’s ask God to burden our hearts for the millions (at home and around the world) who don’t have a personal relationship with God. He knows who they are and loves every one of them.  Let’s not neglect our responsibility to pray for them.  Let’s then watch God work and fulfill His promise to ‘give us the nations’.

My prayer for you this week:  ‘Father, Promise-Giver and Promise-Keeper, thank You for reminding us this week that You are always faithful to do all that You say in Your Word.  Forgive us for not trusting You and trying to do things in our own power when we know You are All-Powerful for every circumstance.  Help us to be proactive as we pray Your promises, and believe Your Word will come to pass as You have promised.  As we think of the many who don’t know you, who don’t have a relationship with You, who pray not knowing who they are praying to – we ask for boldness to speak Your Word and promises to them and to always ‘pray without ceasing’ for them.  I pray Your blessings and promises on each one this week for whatever they are facing.  Please encourage them always through the presence of Your Holy Spirit.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!!!
