Call to Prayer for August 1, 2016

‘Praying for the Harvest’ – I had the joy of spending the last couple of weeks with my 2 youngest grandsons, Silas and Will, as we visited Washington, DC and Williamsburg, Virginia. The boys asked me what my favorite part of the trip was and my response was that I was able to be with them – the older I get, the more I realize the importance and priority of relationships.  As we rode trains, buses, and walked to the many sites, we were surrounded by hundreds of people from all over the world – many cultures, many languages and I’m sure many religions.  So many people there to experience and understand the history of America and who we are as a nation – but how many of these are searching for the truth and answers of who they are as one of God’s creation?

This morning I received the following from our workers who serve at the Jerusalem Prayer Center in Israel. I believe it is a great picture of the importance of praying for those who don’t know Jesus as Savior.  As you read this, pray that God will give us hearts to pray for His harvest among all peoples of the world who need to know His Truth – Jesus.

It is almond harvest time at the Jerusalem Prayer Center.  Every few days we pick them from our two almond trees.  We have learned some things during this new experience.  It seems we have two different varieties of almonds.  The almonds on one tree have a single hull and those on the other tree have a double hull.  Like pecans, the almonds tell you when they are ready.  The hull will open to reveal the hard shell that protects the nut.  Once a week, a man comes to help us with the garden.  When we first saw the hull begin to crack open, our gardener cautioned us to wait several weeks until they had had the time to dry more.  As the almond matures on the tree, the hull will split, then open wide.  Then finally, if it survives the animals, the hull will completely dry and fall off, leaving only the almond in its shell on the branch.  As we pick the almonds, we have been praying for those seekers who, like the almonds, are open to receive the gospel.  We pray for those seekers who may be wrapped in layers of misconception or argument.  And we pray for those who are so open to the gospel message, they willingly shed everything that restricts their understanding, completely ripe for harvest.  We pray that the Truth of the gospel will be boldly explained.

Join us in praying for the harvest:

  • Ask the Lord to open people’s hearts, making them more receptive to accepting the Truth.
  • Ask that all believers would look up and notice those open and willing to hear. (John 4:35)
  • Pray for all believers to proclaim with boldness (Ephesians 6:18-20)
  • Pray that the Lord of the harvest would send more workers (Matthew 9:38)

My Prayer for you this week: ‘Father, please give us hearts to pray for the lost in our world. Help us to see those around us who need to hear of Your love and to experience the joy of knowing You personally. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Let’s continue joining together in our concert of prayer at 9 AM each morning as we intercede for our friends and workers in Israel and surrounding countries.
